Latest Canon Printer

The Japanese company's latest range of Pixma printers hold claim to what its general manager Andrew Koh describes as "the most beautiful printers made by Canon". Clad in a glossy black chassis, the Pixma MG6170 and MG8170 are the firm's latest flagship All-In-One (AIO) offerings.

Other than stylish designs, the two inkboxes also feature an Intelligent Touch System which does away with physical keys. In place are touch-sensitive controls which just require a tap to activate. Additionally, only specific keys are lit when in certain functions, which aims to help minimize confusion when operating the printers.

Canon has also introduced two new functions for its inkboxes. There is the Flickr Integration Photo Print, which allows users to import their own pictures on photo-sharing site Flickr to be printed easily. The HD movie clip printing feature lets consumers open a high-definition movie file on their computer and select an individual frame from there to be printed as a photo. However, this function is only limited to video files generated from a Canon camera.

The MG6170 and MG8170 are joined by five other AIOs: The Pixma MG5270, MG5170, MP497, MP287 and iP4870. These five models have HD movie printing and Flickr-integrated printing, but no touch-operated control panel.

The MP497 is on sale now for S$299 (US$230.73) in Asia. The other six inkboxes will be in stores from end September, with pricing to be announced closer to launch.
