So, after months and months of fevered speculation, we finally found out that the latest version of Apple’s iconic handset was the iPhone 4S, not the iPhone 5 as had been widely predicted. The iPhone 4S was not the major update which many had predicted, but this in turn suggests that the iPhone 5, set to be launched in 2012, could be a revolutionary change.

Although Apple has only just launched the iPhone 4S, details and rumours about the next iPhone are already emerging. This is down to the fact that the iPhone 4S was launched later than normal (October) and that the next iPhone is scheduled to return to the regular mid-summer launch slot in 2012.

With all the rumours and reports flying around the internet making it impossible to know what exactly is going on, we've decided to do the hard work for you, and bring together all the relevant details in one place. We'll be updating the details as the launch draws closer and we want you to let us know in the comments what you want from the new iPhone and what you think we'll see.

iPhone: Bigger screen

In the past year, the trend for ever-larger smartphone screens has been led by the Android bridge with devices like the HTC Sensation XL and the Samsung Galaxy Note. Even Windows Phone devices are getting in on the act with the monstrous HTC Titan.

However Apple has stuck to its tried and tested handset screen size of 3.5in, which when put side-by-side with some of these modern day beasts looks positively weedy. And so it is no surprise that rumours abound that the iPhone 5 will have a larger screen - 4in to be exact.

Reports suggest that both Hitachi Displays and Sony Mobile Display Corporation have begun production of the panels for the iOS devices and that they will be delivered to the companies assembling the iPhone in the coming weeks.

iPhone 5: New shape

Soon after the launch of the iPhone 4S, reports emerged that Steve Jobs was working on a radical new design of the iPhone prior to his untimely death. This new design is said to be teardrop shaped and will be 8mm longer with an aluminium case. It will also use a curved glass screen, similar to the one seen on the Galaxy Nexus.

Upcoming Apple iMac To Get TV In Early 2012

Rumours surrounding the launch of an Apple television in the second half of 2012 have been increasing lately but now a report suggests that prior to that, Apple will launch a new version of its all-in-one PC, the iMac, with built-in Apple TV functionality.

The report comes from Wedge Partners analyst Brian Blair who believes this product will be a stepping stone for Apple before they launch their fully fledged television set in time for Christmas next year.

“We believe Apple’s redesign of the iMac in the first half of 2012 will likely usher in some TV capability into the iMac offering first, effectively taking the high end and larger screens of the iMac line and pushing it toward the TV market by integrating Apple TV and iCloud features into a slimmer all-in-one PC,” Blair said.
“Apple could effectively start with what they already have on the manufacturing line and slowly push their offering from 27 inches and scale up from there to 32 inches and then move on to the 42, 50 and 55 inch market.”

According to various industry analysts, Apple’s television set, reportedly named iTV, will come with LCD panels from Sharp and could be available in three sizes when it launches in time for Christmas 2012.

The new iMac would be able to do all the things the current Apple TV can do, such as streaming films and TV shows to your TV (as long as it’s Wi-Fi enabled of course) but would also give users access to iCloud content. Apple could also integrate Siri voice recognition software into the package and get networks on board to stream their content through the Apple TV networks, according to Blair.

While the idea of having Apple TV baked into your iMac is certainly a nice idea, we’re not sure it’s the answer to many people’s problems. The idea of a dedicated TV from Apple is a much more appealing prospect, but for now let us know in the comments if an iMac with built-in Apple TV would be of interest.

Amazing technology Of First 128Gb NAND Chip Intel And Micron Production

Intel and Micron have produced the world’s first 128Gb NAND chip using a 20nm process.

Currently producing 64Gb NAND chips on a 20nm process, Intel Micron Flash Technologies (IMFT) is set to begin manufacturing the 128Gb chip in the first half of 2012, which the high-capacity chips showing up in smartphones, tablets and SSDs in 2013.
A package using eight of these chips would put 128GB of storage on the tip of your finger. The new Flash chips are also promising faster transfer speeds, up to 333 megatransfers per second (MT/s).

"As portable devices get smaller and sleeker, and server demands increase, our customers look to Micron for innovative new storage technologies and system solutions that meet these challenges," said Glen Hawk, vice president of Micron's NAND Solutions Group. "Our collaboration with Intel continues to deliver leading NAND technologies and expertise that are critical to building those systems."

The larger capacity chip, when it finally does come to market should enable standard 2.5in drives to hold up to 2TB while Ultrabooks and Macbook Air will be available with up to 1TB of storage.

Intel has also confirmed that mass production of the 64Gb chip is underway so we should be seeing them in devices later next year. Samples of the 128Gb chip will be available in January but because of a new interface and page design they will take longer for manufacturers to test as they will have to develop new controllers and drive firmware to support the chip.

Olympus EP3 Along with M Zuiko 12mm f/2.0 lens Specifications

This model has the same 12.3MP Live MOS sensor found on its predecessor, the E-P2. The E-P3 houses a new TruePic VI image processor which is dual core. That effectively means that you can continue using the Live view mode while the image is being processed. It also works wonders when you are using the Creative Art filters and applying them to a single image, as we will see later. It also checks the focus about 120 times a second which brings us to one of its top features. That of having a extremely fast auto-focus.

Build and Design
The Olympus EP3 has an all-metal body with three types of hand grips to choose from. An addition over the previous generation EP2 is the presence of a flash unit onboard. The flash unit is assembled as a pop-up type unit, so that it merges with the top portion of the camera. The jog dial is located on the right hand side of the hot-shoe section. Shutter is located just beside the jog dial.
On the rear side you have the 610k dot OLED screen which has a capacitive touch response. You can select the focus points from over 35 AF points by touch as well. Not just that, you can also fire the shutter by tapping on the touchscreen.

Button layout around the screen is quite intuitive and all of them are located on the right hand side. There is a record button for video recording followed by magnifier button which comes handy while manual focussing. Fn1 and Fn2 buttons can be programmed with specific tasks such as exposure lock among others.
A Zuiko Digital ED 14-42mm R (f/3.5 - f/5.6) kit lens is bundled with the EP3. It has a metallic manual focus rim which complements the metal body of the EP3.

AMD HD6990 Updated Coming soon in March 2011

AMD showed up at CeBIT 2011 with their latest flagship, the HD6990. They even unveiled some images of the card itself. It seemed that this will be the new flagship of AMD in 2011, butthey didn’t mention specifically when it’ll be available, or how much. The HD6990 was even demonstrated in a transparent closed case. Saab Produced Android-based IQon in-car Infotainment system

It may not be the first to produce an Android-based in-car infotainment system, but Saab is diving headlong into the fray with its new IQon platform that it's just unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show. It not only packs the usual navigation and entertainment features, but is tied into a network of sensors in the car that measure everything from vehicle speed to inside and outside temperatures to the position of the sun. While that's fairly impressive on its own, Saab is also going the extra mile and making all of that information to third-party developers though an API, which they'll be able to use to produce their own applications -- which will (you guessed it) be made available through Saab's own app store. Unfortunately, it's not clear when the new system will actually be available to consumers, but Saab is already using it in a fleet of test cars, and it's now showing it off in its new PhoeniX concept car in Geneva. Intel 510 Series SSD Review

Yes, here it is; the Intel SSD 510 series. This is a new SSD from Intel that the company say is for demanding gamers, media creators, performance-intensive workstation users and any technology enthusiast who wants to significantly increase performance of their systems. Fair enough, since SSD does provide a huge speed boost over conventional spinning bricks.

Performance wise, it features fast SATA 6Gbps performance, supporting read speed of 500MB/s and write speed of 315MB/s. A decent speed with support for 6Gbps SATA interfaces, but not as superior as OCZ Vertex 3 which is capable of speed of over 500MB/s for both read and writes speed. The Intel SSD 510 series is currently available in 120GB and 250GB of storage capacities for $294 and $583, respectively.

HP derides BlackBerry PlayBook OS Good Design

It's not rare to hear talk of other operating systems employing webOS-like elements -- we've been asking to see its elegant notification system in iOS for years -- but RIM's BlackBerry Playbook borrows so heavily from the UI concepts of the software built by Palm and now owned by HP that it could easily be confused for a webOS tablet. It handles multiple concurrent applications using a card view and allows you to shut down unwanted apps by swiping them off the screen, a multitasking implementation that exhibits "uncanny similarities" in HP's eyes to its own TouchPad tablet. Still, the Hewlett Packard team insist that they're focused on their own products and will "keep innovating, we'll keep honing and those guys hopefully will continue to see the value in it and keep following us by about a year." Ouch.

RIM's response, as espoused by Jeff McDowell, has been to say that "when you're trying to optimize user experience that juggles multitasking, multiple apps open at once and on a small screen, you're going to get people landing on similar kinds of designs." This essentially sidesteps the issue by throwing a subtle compliment HP's way, but it brings up an interesting question -- shouldn't companies aim to make the best software possible, in spite of it potentially looking like a ripoff of someone else's work?

Seagate to launch 3TB Barracuda XT hard drive

3TB might not be something new, but it’s still a rare sight to see a 3TB brick lying around. Seagate has announced that their Barracuda lineup will now have 3TB capacity too. Called the Barracuda XT, the drive is equipped a SATA 6.0Gbps interface, a 64MB of cache memory and works at 7,200 RPM. The 3TB Barracuda XT is available for purchase now for $279.

AOC's another Full HD monitor

Full HD monitors, they’re everywhere and they just won’t stop coming. AOC has geared up for yet another Full HD monitor, this time called the e2795Vh. Yes, it’s a 27-inch LED-backlight monitor that delivers 1920x 1080 Full HD resolutions. The monitor adopts the new MVA (multi-domain vertical alignment) panel, which has 5ms response time and 300 cd/m2 brightness, very standard stuff here. The extra point would be the built-in stereo speakers which would be good if you’re in an office and don’t want to buy extra speaker system. There’s even a USB hub with four ports out and one port in. Connectivity wise, there are a DVI port and an HDMI port. The AOC e2795Vh is scheduled to go on sale in April for unannounced price yet.

Microsoft Windows Embedded Compact 7 Tablets now available

Back in June at Computex, Microsoft announced the successor to Windows CE -- Windows Embedded Compact 7 – and it's finally hitting the general availability mark today. The guys in Redmond posted a 180-day trial of the final WEC7 bits yesterday, and while it is unclear when it was released to manufacturers, ZDNet's Mary Jo Foley notes that the digital signature on the bits is February 19th. So, what does it all mean? Well, you'll definitely want to check out our Windows Embedded Compact 7explained post, but we should start seeing the new OS powering phones (don't forget WP7 is built on the Win CE kernel), medical devices, retail systems, and maybe even some tablets soon. As for the latter category, you may rememeber that we saw that WEC7 prototype tablet above at Computex, however while some like ASUS promised early on that it would use the software for its EP101TC, it quickly ditched that idea and went with Android. Our guess is that will be the case for most out there, but the lightweight OS, which now can run on ARM V7 architecture, has built-in support for Silverlight for Windows Embedded and Flash 10.1, clearly has advantages over Windows 7 on tablets at the moment. NVIDIA's faulty GPU class action News

Remember when NVIDIA was caught selling defective mobile graphics chips, and agreed to provide bargain-basement replacement laptops to make a class-action lawsuit go away? At least one gentleman wasn't happy with how that went down, and is suing to see that affected customers get a fair shake. Ted Frank of the Center for Class Action Fairness says that NVIDIA has no business passing off cheap laptops, and we think he might have a case -- after all, the judge ordered that NVIDIA provide "a replacement computer of like or similar kind and equal or similar value," and it doesn't take a lawyer to see that the $400 Compaq Presario CQ56-115DX that the company's offering doesn't come close to compensating owners of faulty machines. We joked that you might be better off selling your old laptop for parts on eBay, and that might not be far from the truth.

The thing is, whether Ted Frank and company win or lose in court, defective laptop owners have only two weeks remaining to sign up for whatever NVIDIA ends up handing out, as March 14th is the final deadline to have settlement claims postmarked. Toshiba's New TY-WSD9 Waterproof Wireless Speaker

This is probably for those beach boys, or some people that has leaking house. Toshiba has launched a new speaker in the Japanese market, and it sure is a unique one. The new TY-WSD9 from Toshiba is a multifunction wireless (2.4GHz) speaker with a unique waterproof design (IPX4), so you can use it in your bathtub, swimming pool, or on your personal yacht.

The Toshiba TY-WSD9 features a couple of 1.2W speakers and a transmitter that allows you to use the speaker within 25 meter radius. This waterproof speaker will be available in the middle of March 2011 for 13,000 Yen ($158).

Flexible Batteries get the graphene treatment these are Cheaper than other Batteries

We've been talking about flexible batteries for years now, but a team of Korean researchers have presented a new solution to bendable energy sources that is not only more powerful than standard lithium-ion batteries, but also potentially cheaper to produce than its malleable predecessors -- and unsurprisingly, everyone's favorite wonder material, graphene, is at the heart of the innovation. The rechargeable battery contains a vanadium-oxide cathode, grown on a sheet of graphene paper, an unidentified separator, and an anode made of lithium-coated graphene. According to the folks behind the new power source, it sports higher energy and power density, as well as a better cycle life than the literally stiff competition. Similar advances have also out-performed rigid lithium-ion batteries, but have enlisted carbon nanotubes, a material more expensive to produce than graphene. Of course, like all technological advances, we won't be seeing these things for years, if not decades, so you might as well get used to ye olde standard bearer.
